Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ,
On Thursday, May 6th at Noon, there will be a gathering just off Government
Square in the small park next to Sids Furniture. The gathering will mark our
communities participation in a National Day of Prayer. Now, I must be honest and tell you
that I am not usually inclined to participate in these things. Why? Well, you can pray
anywhere and at any time. Also, your actions and the conduct of your life are a
prayer-laid-bare for all the world to see. So if not inclined, why mention this?
Something has to change. Incidences like that at Columbine High
School must not continue to happen. Will praying at the park stop them? No and Yes. If all
we do is gather and pray, it will help but not stop them. If however, this event calls all
of us to realize that we are a community bound together by more ties than one can count,
and if we reclaim being that whole village, that extended family, we can make a
difference.
I remember my father telling me about his youth. If someone not family saw or
caught him doing something wrong, they stopped him. Then took him home where he had to
answer for his actions again. Now, it was NOT the punishment (x2) that he received that
made a difference I deeply believe it was the cohesiveness of the community that
made a lasting imprint of caring and accountability.
So why come to the park? If you can make it, it will let others around you know
that you believe in something enough to change your day for it. Someone you know may be
searching for something; maybe they didnt know of your beliefs, but in seeing you
they can now approach you. Also, you may find others who struggle to walk the walk and
talk the talk that can share the journey with you. Will we all be of one mind? No. Are we
all part of one community ? Yes. Together can we make a difference? With Gods help,
absolutely!
Faithfully,
Scott

GEM Network Educational Workshop:
Sandi and Eric Lawson will be traveling to Denver, CO to
attend the Global Episcopal Mission (GEM) Network Educational Workshop this weekend. Eric
will be representing the WV Diocese. GEM is all about networking:
dioceses sharing their experiences and ideas. Every diocese has a unique program, some
extensive and some fairly simple, and all of these come together at this Annual
Educational Institute. Each diocese will submit a written report of their program,
structure, communication network, missionaries, mission visits, etc. Erics
interested in coordinating a short term foreign mission trip in 2000. There are many
opportunities. For instance, the South American Missionary Society of the Episcopal Church
has joined with Habitat for Humanity to build a neighborhood in Honduras. This should be a
great learning experience for Eric and Sandi as well as for Trinitys Evangelism
Committee. We will have information on what they learn in Denver in the next edition of
the Times.

Interdenominational Church Service:
The Wood County Ministerial Alliance along with the Wood
County Bicentennial Commissions is planning an interdenominational outdoor church service
on Sunday May 2nd beginning at 8:30 A.M. and ending by 9:30 A.M. The service is to be held
on the parking lot behind the Public Debt Building on 2nd Ave. in downtown Parkersburg.
This is an opportunity for people to join with church members of all denominations to
learn and give thanks to God for the blessings He has brought to Wood County through our
churches. Those attending are asked to bring a lawn chair.

| Connies Corner This prayer was sent to me by a friend whose
father is a career military man. I thought that there may be others who have family in the
military who may find this useful Connie+
Father,
You said that if any two on earth agree on any matter that it would be done of
our Father which is in Heaven. We agree and ask You to visit our three captive soldiers
that are so scared and bruised. They were sent under orders, on a mission of mercy and
peace. We ask You to visit them by Your Holy Spirit and save them, and comfort them as
only You can. You can go through all doors that are shut and locked. We are believing that
You will visit these men. Bring healing to their bodies and souls, and give them favor and
mercy from their captors. In Jesus' name Amen!

A Note
about the Adams Chapel &
Keen Window ...
Several people have asked about Edna Ruoff
and Bp. Prices grandmother who were remembered in the decorating of the
"Victorian Parlor." From the beginning we have been determined to continue their
legacy. The lantern from the parlor remains in place and is constantly lit as a Vigil
light witnessing to the Churchs call to pray without ceasing. A plaque will
be placed by the lantern to memorialize this legacy. SSH+

Tough Stuff |
We
cannot tell what may happen to us in the
Strange medley of life. But we can decide
What happens in us - how we can take it,
What we do with it - and that is what really
Counts in the end. How to take the raw stuff
Of life and make it a thing of worth and
Beautythat is the test of living. |
