Faith @
Fifth and Juliana
Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ,
In many ways it is difficult to be away from you on Sundays. This coming Sunday
has particular difficulties. It is Fathers Day, and my being away means I will be
away from my daughter, Mary Grahame (never easy for me), and from you, who have called me
to a ministry as a "spiritual father." Additionally, I will miss being here with
Fr. Jim Wilkinson, who serves Gods people plying their trade on Ohio and Upper
Mississippi Rivers. You will find Fr. Wilkinson and his ministry to be fascinating
make a special effort to be here at either 8:00 or 10:30.
One of the things which will lessen the difficulty of being away is that I will
be at Peterkin with a hundred or so high school young people. Being with a group of young
people like this is always fun and always challenging. But, whether at camp or on a
mission trip, I approach these events ALWAYS expecting a miracle. I have yet for that
expectation to go unfulfilled. As an aside, please keep the ministry of Peterkin in your
prayers all through the summer!
While I am away at Peterkin you can be assured of continuing pastoral care and
the availability of priestly ministry. During the day you can contact the parish office.
At night, you can call the office number or you can contact our Senior Warden, Carol
Olson.
In addition to the articles which you will find in other places in the Times, I
need to add my "thank yous" for many things over the past week or two. Our
staff did a fine job preparing for the Blessing and Dedication of the Chapel and the
chapel appointments hauling chairs, cleaning, printing service booklets, cutting
grass, checking air conditioners. Thanks to the "church mouse" who installed new
lamps in the high floods in Trevor Chapel. It is the first time they have worked in my
time here at Trinity. Thanks to the ECW for a reception which was lovely. The altar guild
did a fine job as well, setting up and changing over from one service to the next. They
even stapled the booklets for the Chapel service.
It was an honor to stand on the hillside of Mt. Olivet Cemetery and join with
the Keen Family to commend Bernie into the loving arms of God at his final earthly resting
place. It was a rare honor indeed to gather with all the families remembered by chapel,
window, lantern, candlesticks, chalice and paten and so much more and to give all these
things over to God. My thanks for the honor of being a part of it all.
Faithfully,
Scott Hunter+

Supper Club: The last Supper Club of the season will be held this coming Friday
June 18th at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Jack and Lynette Neilson. All are welcome to come
share an evening of good food and good company. Please call Lynette at 485-9261 as soon as
possible so that she may know how many people to expect and what dish you are bringing. No
agenda...just good eating, good friends, and good conversations !

Wonderful Wednesdays:
This past Wednesday was the first in a series of book study meetings planned for
the summer. We met at 6:00 p.m. and enjoyed a light dinner provided by Eric Lawson (thanks
Eric!) followed by a discussion of the book At Home in Mitford. The book follows
the life of Father Timothy Kavanagh, the bachelor priest of Lords Chapel Episcopal
Church. Everyone enjoyed the book so much that it was decided that we will continue the
Mitford Series. The next Wonderful Wednesday is scheduled for July 14th, with
dinner at 6:00 p.m. followed by discussion of the next book in the Mitford series entitled
A Light in the Window. Please call the church office by Monday July 12th if you are
coming so that we will know how much food to have !! Also childcare is available !!! So
come enjoy a fun evening. Philippians 4:13, for Petes sake !

Ode to Laurel
For those of us on the Altar Guild and throughout Trinity who knew and loved
former Altar Guild Directress Laurel Pleninger, who passed earlier this month, it has been
suggested that a fitting memorial might be gifts to the Altar Guild for something to be
purchased in her name. Directress Susie Fitcher agrees and she and Father Hunter have
listed new altar linens and possibly a credence table for the new chapel as being among
the needs, and appropriate.
If you would like to be a part of this memorial to Laurel, please give or send
your check to the Church, marked "Altar Guild Memorial for Laurel Pleninger."

Father Hunter will be attending Senior Camp
at Peterkin from June 19th-26th along with DRE Connie Waterman. Father Jim Wilkinson from
the Seamans Church Institute Ministry on the River, will preside in Father
Hunters absence. Father Wilkinsons "parish" consists of the Ohio and
Upper Mississippi Rivers. Trinity is hoping to help the Ministry on the River by becoming
a remote office and a "river friendly church."

Traveling this summer:
Why not plan to prepay your financial support to Trinity Church. Even when you
are gone our bill-bearing mail continues to find us. Your consideration would be
appreciated by all: ESPECIALLY THE TREASURER !!!!!

Message from Frank Coe, Executive Director of PETERKIN :
The pool is full and waiting for campers. The cabins have been cleaned and they
too are waiting for campers. We have a new activity area overlooking Lake Alfred--the
concrete pad where Advent formerly stood. Overall Peterkin is eagerly awaiting to receive
summer campers!!
Camp Registrations continue to arrive daily. There is always room for more
campers !!!!
Please remind everyone that it is never too late to get in a registration, and
that scholarships are available. THE DAY BEFORE CAMP IS NOT TOO LATE !!!!

Speaking of Peterkin:
We have received brochures from Peterkin regarding the Episcopal Church
Womens Retreat. This years retreat is scheduled for Sept. 17th-19th and the
theme this year is to be Deep in our Heart
..Where is Jesus in our
lives today? The retreat will be lead by Canon R. Carter Echols who is Canon Missioner
and Director of Metropolitan Ministries at Washington National Cathedral. Sister Barbara
Jean of the Sisterhood of the Holy Nativity will also be in attendance again this year.
Canon Echols will lead the women through several biblical stories, teaching us to
understand womens relationships with Jesus in biblical times as well as in our own
lives. The total cost for the retreat is $85.00 , excluding Sunday lunch which is an
additional $6.00 if you choose to stay. Registration forms are available through the
church office. Registration forms and a $25.00 deposit are asked to be returned as soon as
possible.

Blessing and Dedication:
Saturday
June 12th a celebration of dedication and blessing was held for the new chapel in Trinity
House and its furnishings The chapel will be known as the Kathleen H. Adams Chapel as it
was given, by family and friends, in memory of Kathleen Adams, long time Trinity member
and mother of Doug Adams. A chalice and paten to be used in the Chapel were given by Scott
& Diana Adams and Kristi Adams. The Stained Glass Window was given by the family and
the friends of Bernie and Marialyce Keen, and a set of candlesticks were given
anonymously. The Chapel occupies the former Victorian Parlor given in memory of Edna Rouff
and Jane B. Rogan. The never to be extinguished Lantern of Vigil and Prayer which hangs in
the Chapel is both a legacy and memorial to their memory.
The Blessing of the Chapel was done by Bishop Smith and Bishop Price was also
here and gave an address before the congregation processed from the nave down Juliana
Street to Trinity House for the blessings and dedication. The service was followed by a
lovely reception provided by the ECW. Many thanks to Shirley Lawrence-Berry, Beth West,
Barbara Bailey, Carma Guertin, Betsy Curry and others who helped prepare the reception.
Also many thanks to Cathy Brookover for all her hard work preparing the church and grounds
for this special service. In addition to certain services, Adams Chapel is for anyone
needing a moment of quiet reflection or prayer.

SUMMER SUNDAY MINISTRY PROGRAMS

We will be baking a treat for Fathers and those who love them. This program is for
children of all ages -- infants to 100 years old. Come join us!

Corner CHILD SAID PROVERBS
A first grade teacher collected well-known proverbs. She gave
