The Bishop is coming! The Bishop is coming! And in preparation for his coming it is time to offer "Christianity and the Episcopal Tradition." This class will begin on Sunday, August 8, and run through September. It will provide the opportunity for people to learn more about Christianity and our unique place (the Episcopal tradition) within the faith.

Who can or should attend the class? Anyone can attend! The class is specially designed for 1) young adults (at or about 16 years of age or older), who desire to learn more and who may be drawn to make a adult profession of faith; 2) adults who wish to be baptized, confirmed or received into the Episcopal tradition of Christ’s Church; or 3) anyone who is curious or who has a desire to learn more (or have a "refresher") about the Episcopal Church and her approach to the understanding and living of the Christian life and faith.

Class will begin at 4:30 pm and go until 6:00 pm. While the class will run through the end of September, Bishop Smith will be with us on Sunday, September 12th for his visitation.

There is no charge. Please call the office and register so that we will have materials for everyone. Also, Childcare can be arranged if need, but please let us know in advance.

Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ,

One of the best parts of what I do is that I get to represent Trinity Church, which is to say I get to represent each of you, at various community gatherings and events. This past week I was fortunate to be at the Mid-Ohio Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross for a "thank you" breakfast for the blood donor program.

The Hebrews of long ago understood the precious link between blood and life. In fact, blood was believed to possess the very "substance" of life, whatever that was. We are more sophisticated now, and we know that life is not contained "in" the blood. Nonetheless, when blood is needed and cannot be located, at the least life hangs in the balance, and is often times lost. The link between blood and life is undeniable and still very theological.

I bring this before you for two reasons, at the breakfast I was again reminded of how precious a gift the gift of blood is. For all of the advancements in medicine and medical technology have not provided any substitute for whole blood, and for more blood products. The tender words of our own Shirley Lawrence-Berrey brought that home to me again. In short, last year Bob needed it (blood) and it was there. There is much more to the story than that, but since it is Shirley’s story, seek her out if you want to know more.

The second reason for mentioning this is really two-fold (so I guess there are three reasons). Thank you very much to every person from Trinity who has taken the time over the past year to give blood, or assist in the donor process. You are one of the angels among us. IF YOU ARE ABLE to give blood — give it. There is no substitute for it. You can catch no disease from it. The discomfort is less than that of stubbing you toe on a chair leg (and we all get over that!), and it takes less time than watching a television show (that we won‘t remember next week anyway).

They are not kidding when they say that giving blood is giving the gift of life. Don’t wait until you or a loved one need it to realize this truth.

Please keep the ministry of Peterkin in your prayers. The drought that grips us is even worse in the eastern reaches of West Virginia. Currently 1200 gallons of water is being brought by the Romney Volunteer Fire Department and put in the tank at the camp. We have authorized the drilling of a new well. There have been no campfires (an integral part of camp!) since Sr. High Camp. Many people need the benefit of rain now — in West Virginia and beyond. Please pray for seasonable rain (a prayer can be found on page 828 in the Prayer Book).

Faithfully,

Scott Hunter+

Family Crisis Intervention Center

The Family Crisis Intervention Center has asked if Trinity could help provide its shelter with some much needed items. Trinity has offered to help collect items as part of our continuing Outreach Program. The Center has indicated that the following items are needed the most: Paper plates and cups (small), toilet tissue, paper towels, kleenex, disposable diapers (size 3), laundry detergent, bleach, toilet cleaner, shampoo, hair spray, baby wipes and light bulbs. Please bring your items to the church and they will be delivered to the center. Many thanks in advance for your continued generosity.

Traveling this summer?

Why not plan to prepay your financial support to Trinity Church. Even when you are gone our bill-bearing mail continues to find us. Your consideration would be appreciated by all: ESPECIALLY THE TREASURER !!!!!

Connie’s Corner

Hope you all enjoy this, I sure did!!

Bob and the Lord stood by to observe a baseball game. The Lord's team was playing Satan's team. The Lord's team was at bat, the score was tied zero to zero, and it was the bottom of the 9th inning with two outs. They continued to watch as a batter stepped up to the plate whose name was Love. Love swung at the first pitch and hit a single, because Love never fails. The next batter was named Faith, who also got a single because Faith works with Love. The next batter up was named Godly wisdom. Satan wound up and threw the first pitch. Godly Wisdom looked it over and let it pass: Ball one. Three more pitches and Godly Wisdom walked, because Godly wisdom never swings at what Satan throws. The bases were loaded. The Lord then turned to Bob and told him He was now going to bring in His star player. Up to the plate stepped Grace.

Bob said "He sure doesn't look like much!" Satan's whole team relaxed when they saw Grace. Thinking he had won the game, Satan wound up and fired his first pitch. To the shock of everyone, Grace hit the ball harder than anyone had ever seen. But Satan was not worried; his center fielder let very few get by. He went up for the ball, but it went right through his glove, hit him on the head and sent him crashing on the ground; then it continued over the fence for a home run! The Lord's team won. The Lord then asked Bob if he knew why Love, Faith, and Godly Wisdom could get on base but could not win the game. Bob answered that he did not know why. The Lord explained, "If your love, faith and wisdom had won the game you would think you had done it by yourself. Love, faith and wisdom will get you on base, but only My Grace can get you home. My Grace is the one thing Satan cannot steal.- Anonymous

Peace+ Connie

A Riddle !!!

When asked this riddle, 80% of kindergarten students got the answer, compared to 17% of Stanford University seniors. {and where does that leave you?}

What is greater than God,
More evil than the devil,
The poor have it,
The rich need it,
And if you eat it, you'll die?
