September 5th will mark the official launch of the Episcopal Habitat Project. The three Episcopal churches in Wood County are forming a coalition to sponsor a house during Building on Faith Week, 2000. Trinity and Good Shepherd Churches of Parkersburg, and Christ Memorial of Williamstown will be celebrating the beginning of the Episcopal Habitat Project with a combined Eucharist followed by a Pig Roast on Sunday Sept. 5th at the City Park Pavilion. The service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Everyone is asked to bring a dish to share. Drinks, plates and the pig will be provided.

Building on Faith is Habitat's annual weeklong celebration of its strong and continuing Christian heritage. The coalition of the Wood Co. Episcopal Churches will continue their fund raising efforts throughout the year with the actual building of the Habitat House to be in the year 2000. The three churches will not only be providing the funding but we will also be providing the labor.

Everyone is invited to attend this opportunity for fellowship with our fellow Episcopalians, but to also learn more about this exciting new project.

Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ,

It is with great joy that I share with you the news that beginning this September Trinity Church will start the inaugural season of the St. Cecilia Music Series at Trinity Church. This series will consist of 4 to 8 offerings each year, and the goals will be to offer great music, of varied styles, in a manner which is accessible to all.

Each year at least one offering will focus on music by young people and at least one offering in the series will have its foundation in a worship experience. There will be no "admission fee" for any of the St. Cecilia events. However, we have as an additional purpose the intention of "offering a beneficial outreach to the community." Each event in the series will give all who come the opportunity to make a difference. One event may include the invitation to bring non-perishable food to be distributed to those in need. Another may invite people to bring a sweatshirt or blanket to be given to those who are cold.

When the artists share liberally with their time, we may invite you to make an offering of generosity to benefit some cause such as providing instruments for music education to a school or university. Further, we are hoping to make an arrangement with local arts support organizations to "match" any contribution made.

How will the St. Cecilia Series be funded? The seed money was placed into the 1999 budget of Trinity Church. Additionally, the Vestry has endorsed the creation of the St. Cecilia Society. The society is open to all in the parish and community making a $25.00 contribution (students $10.00). St. Cecilia Society members will be listed in each program and will be able to attend receptions to meet the artist or artists following the event.

Please share this information will all the people you know who appreciate music. As well, please show your appreciation to Arlene Wetzel who has been instrumental (pun intended) in organization of this series.

Faithfully,

Scott Hunter+

Greetings from the Cuff’s:

Father Hunter shares the following letter from the Cuffs :

Former Curate the Rev. Stephen Cuff and his family have begun serving in the Diocese of Southern Ohio. Steve is serving as the Director of the Summer Camp Program of the Diocese and as Vicar of Saint Andrew’s Church in Washington Court House. As the camping program at Procter Conference Center AND mission churches fall under the oversight of the Bishop Suffragan, Steve is in a close working relationship with Trinity’s beloved friend, the Right Rev. Kenneth L. Price. The Cuffs are delighted to be closer to Beth’s family and extended family in southern Ohio but know they will miss the many friends made in Diocese of West Virginia. With them they carry the love they found in Parkersburg, Berkeley Springs and Steve’s participation in summer camp at Peterkin. AND they’re now closer to Parkersburg than they’ve been for several years !!

Sincerely,

Steve, Beth, Lauren, and Mary Cuff

Connie’s Corner

The time for heading back to school is upon us, as is the time to prepare for a new year of Sunday School. As we prepare for our use of the "Godly Play" curriculum this year I thought I would take this opportunity to remind everyone of the upcoming events:

Wednesdays beginning Aug 25th we will begin a series of four orientation programs for parents and children. Dinner will be provided beginning at 5:45 p.m. and the orientation program will follow at 6:30. The dates are: Aug 25th, Sept. 1st, 8th and 15th.

Also on this Sunday (Aug. 29th) the Church School Teachers will have a training session beginning at 12:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided. This would be an excellent time for anyone interested in helping out with Sunday School, even on a limited basis, to come and see what "Godly Play" is all about.

Peace, Connie

TUNE IN TODAY!

For young people and those who love them

Dear God

A Nun asked her class of elementary school children to write a note to God. Here are some examples of the notes.

Dear God:

Instead of letting people die and having to make new ones, why don’t you just keep the ones You have ?

——Johnny

Dear God:

Who draws the lines around the countries?——Nan

Dear God:

I went to this wedding and they kissed right in church. Is that okay?——Neil

Dear God:

Please send me a pony. I never asked for anything before. You can look it up.

——Bruce

Dear God:

I didn’t think orange went with purple until I saw the sunset You made on Tuesday. That was cool.
