It is with great joy that Trinity Episcopal Church announces a new music series designed to make the highest caliber and variety of music available and accessible to all in the greater Parkersburg community. Beginning in September [September 26 to be exact] Trinity Church will start the inaugural season of the St. Cecilia Music Series. This series will consist of 4 to 8 offerings each year, and the goals will be to offer great music of varied styles.

Terry gave the ECM his faith story about being hostage. It was quite moving, and I wanted to put something on the site about it. I found this interview done in 97. It gives a glimpse of this man's faith in God.

Rivers of the World

Saturday October 9th at 7:00 P.M. Mark Thurman, a trustee of Rivers of the World (ROW) will be at Trinity to share the mission, ministry and outreach of this organization. What is ROW, you ask? ROW is an international exploration and development agency that works on very remote rivers. Their staff is located in the Congo, Peru, Honduras and Belize. Their goal is to explore and assist people with all manner of projects! Rivers of the World loves to attempt the impossible IF it will help someone else. They are not here to just look at problems — they are here to provide help! Each year, hundreds of volunteers travel to select ROW sites to assist in projects that range from education to health, to missions, to construction!

Mark will be bringing information and images gathered on three trips to the Peruvian Amazon. Saturday, October 9th , at 7:00 p.m. in the church will be a special time open to everyone. Mark will then join us again on Sunday morning, October 10th, for a special adult education time.

Some of the other work that ROW has sponsored were two expeditions to Belize via Land Rover. The first had 23 Rovers who carried school and medical supplies to northern Belize. In two weeks, they traveled the length of Mexico and back, delivered supplies, saw the country and drove through miles of tough jungles!

During the summer of 1999, ROW Trustee Jamie Eisman led a convoy back to Belize to assist in the construction of a library named after a young teacher from Atlanta, Georgia. 20,000 books were delivered and will play a great part in the education of young students in Belize!

Plan now to join us — and bring a friend !!!!!!

Faith @ Fifth and Juliana

Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ,

I want to begin with a thank you. You know, Jesus always did that, especially at prayer. Before anything had happened Jesus was always thanking God, his heavenly father. I want to thank you for what you are going to do over the next several weeks. I know that you are going to listen eagerly, and I know that you are going to pray intently and intentionally. I know that you are going to consider your role and your support in the daily and the continuing life and ministry of Trinity Church in new and deeper ways.

You are already aware that we have three focal ministries which are shaping our lives together: The Wood County Episcopal Churches Habitat House Project (outreach), the Godly Play ministry (youth focused) and our Priest Intern participation (spiritual growth and development — his and ours). You already know that this will challenge ALL our resources — time, talent and money. You already know that we have embarked on these missions for only one reason: We believe the Holy Spirit is calling us to these ministries. With the grounding of these efforts in the guidance of the Holy Spirit we, your vestry and I, are convinced that all that is needed and more will be provided. We are not being cocky or cavalier about this, we are simply being faithful.

So thank you for reading, engaging and praying about what God is calling YOU to do, and what God is calling you to be, and what God is calling you to give in the life and support of Trinity Church. Together we shall all be amazed.

bulletWith this issue of the Times you will find the Vision and Mission for Trinity Church. Your Vestry has worked hard and prayed hard in all manner of things to bring the Vision (What is God calling us to become) and the Mission (steps to the Vision) to reality. It is something which will guide and focus our parish life for the next few years. Please read it. Please ask us questions about it. Please know that we are looking to each of you to embrace it and work with it.
bulletOne more thank you: to Beth West and Diane Hensley, who found out late on Thursday that reception plans for the first St. Cecilia evening had suddenly evaporated and truly stepped into the void. It was a lovely evening with a delightful reception made possible by their step-up work, and the work of others. (see article to follow). Great job ladies!

Faithfully,

Scott Hunter+

PS Next St. Cecilia event is October 10 at 7:00 pm.

Peterkin Chapel (135,038 bytes)Men’s Retreat at Peterkin: Bill Eason, Paul Nicholson, Eric Lawson, and Craig Curry represented Trinity this past weekend at the ECM retreat at Peterkin. ■The key speaker was Terry Anderson, whose witness about being captured and held hostage for 7 1/2 years in Iran was quite moving, and thought provoking. He received a spontaneous standing ovation upon departure. ■Bishop Smith gave a cheerful Click here for some pictures of the weekendmessage about the past, present and future of our Diocese, and answered many questions. It seems our Bishop will have a busier schedule after retirement than he has now. ■Bob Wyatt, Evangelism Missioner for the Diocese of MD, gave a 3 session seminar. He planted seeds of thought in the minds of all of us. The men left with a true belief that evangelism not only belongs in our church, but has been alive in it for a very long time. The weather was wonderful, and so was the food. It was a great retreat enjoyed by all that attended !!!!

For young people and those who love them

ONE DAY IN PEACE, JANUARY 1st, 2000

This is a 24 hour concept where no guns are fired anywhere on earth, including on television.

What if: for 24 hours, whosoever was at war in December 1999, agrees that for one
whole day, no guns would be fired. The silence would be golden.

What if: the television programmers of the world agreed NOT to air any
programming with a violent content?

At present, this ONE DAY IN PEACE concept is beginning to get further circulation. Can you spread this concept so that a possibility might become a reality?
This is a 'thought-wave campaign' - that is to say, the more people who grasp this thought, the more it comes into reality.

ONE DAY IN PEACE,
JANUARY lst, 2000
Pass it on!
