Bob & Pat Riffle - Old Man Rivers and his better half. Click here to visit thier site.Old Man Rivers’ Annual Wiener Roast

Every year in October, Old Man Rivers holds a wiener roast. Many of the people blessed by the food service during the year attend. The last wiener roast gathered a record attendance of over 300 people!

It's a big event with a great time had by all. Ministers and music talent are invited from the surrounding area. There will be 5 music groups there this year. Everyone volunteers time and talent to make this event one to remember. It helps provide the opportunity for extended one on one contact with those served by Old Man. These wiener roasts have proven to be very successful as many lives have been touched and changed. Old Man Rivers is a ministry that touches the very heart of Jesus and His servants.

We have been asked to extend an invitation to everyone to attend Old Man Rivers' annual wiener roast, which will be held this year on Saturday October 30th from 5:00 p.m. until “the fire burns out” at the mission parking lot at 703 Pike Street in Parkersburg, WV. Come out an help support one of our best know local outreach programs !!!

Faith @ Fifth and Juliana

Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ,

I want to thank you for the privilege of trekking to my alma mater for a few days of continuing education this past week. I had the opportunity to spend time in seminars addressing the topics of “Congregations as Family Systems” with an emphasis on Sunday worship as the weekly family gathering. I also spent time examining a topic of special interest to my spiritual journey: Celtic Christian Spirituality (that spirituality which has grown up uniquely in Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and the Isle of Man). Finally, I joined with about forty other people in a seminar entitled: “Bringing Starbucks to Church” about reaching generations who are currently in their twenties to forties.

All of these were fascinating and well done. I am presently immersed in a wonderful new book: Celtic Parables, Prayers, and Poems. And I look forward to sharing some of the knowledge with you in the coming weeks and months.

During my time in the Chicago area I also got to be with one of the great leaders and lovers of children and Jesus and bring both together. Harriett Claiborne and I shared being a part of the same staff for almost six years. She is a gifted and devoted educator who, through a ministry to young people named “The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd,” unfolds for young people the love of Jesus in a way that empowers them to discover and claim it for themselves. This method of learning is very very similar to Godly Play — which we have adopted at Trinity. I am particularly excited to share with you that Harriett has agreed to pay a visit to us at Trinity to share her experience and empower each of us to participate to the fullest in this important ministry. You can expect more details from Connie as the arrangements for Harriett’s visit are made. Stay tuned.

Your vestry had a very good meeting this afternoon. Sandi Lawson has done a stunning job working on the budget, and in about a week you will be receiving a copy — which reflects the ministries we believe the Holy Spirit is asking us to support and empower. (Vestry highlights will be in the next issue.) Plan now not to miss church on October 31, November 7 and November 14. Over the course of these three Sundays we will be hearing from Bill Bailey & Beth West (father/daughter), Dan Ruley, and James Wright about the meaning and importance of Trinity and Trinity’s future in their lives. It will be exciting.

Blessings & peace,

Scott Hunter+

To All of Our New Friends at Trinity,

Please accept my thanks on behalf of Glenda, me, and Rivers of the World for the warm welcome and great hospitality you all extended to us. I always enjoy talking about Rivers of the World and showing slides, but when I can do that to a group of fellow believers who respond with concern and support the feeling is simply incredible and I know the Holy Spirit is at work.

Thank you also for your generous financial support of ROW merchandise. More trips are being planned to the Amazon even as I write this to you. There are still some openings on the trip that I will lead from June 17-24, and I ask you to prayerfully consider joining us. We will be distributing school supplies, having a Doctor of Optometry fit people with glasses, and doing some preaching in the evening.

Glenda and I spent a wonderful four days with Scott, Tina, and Mary Grahame and the time simply went by too quickly. To meet and get to know many of you was truly a blessing. Please keep us in your prayers as we try to go where God directs us.

God Bless and Keep You,
Mark and Glenda Thurman

It is now less than two weeks away from the 50th Annual Trinity Book Sale !!!! It doesn’t seem possible, but next Thursday the process of setting-up for the book sale will begin. Please note the sign-up sheets in Trinity Hall and sign-up whenever and wherever you can be of help. There are plenty of “sitting down” jobs available for those who are not able to lift books or to be on their feet for extended periods of time. Help is needed to set-up for the Book Sale, to work in 3 hour shifts during the Sale and of course to help clean-up !!! Please sign-up!!!!

There is still a little bit of time left for anyone who would like to donate books to the sale to get them turned in to the church. If you do have books to donate, please turn them is as soon as possible.

The hours this year will be: Mon.-Wed. 9 AM to 9 PM, and on Thursday from 9 AM to 2 PM. Thursday is also Dollar A Bag Day. Also, St. Anne’s Guild will be serving a luncheon on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 11 AM till 1:30 PM.
