It’s Time !!! Trinity’s 50th Anniversary Book Sale is upon us. To commemorate the 50th Anniversary, this year’s Book Sale will begin with a ribbon cutting ceremony with Mayor Jimmy Colombo on Monday morning.

This week we will begin setting up on Thursday. Please note the sign-up sheets in Trinity Hall and sign-up whenever and wherever you can be of help. There are plenty of "sitting down" jobs available for those who are not able to be on their feet for extended periods of time. Please call Carol Ralsten at 295-4392 to sign-up to help during the sale. Carol states there are many gaps on Tues. and Wed. of the sale. If you are able to help on these days please give Carol a call. Don’t forget to wear your T-shirts and sweatshirts !!!!

The hours this year will be: Mon.-Wed. 9 AM to 9 PM, and on Thursday from 9 AM to 2 PM. Thursday is also Dollar A Bag Day. St. Anne’s Guild will also be serving a luncheon on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday as usual from 11 AM till 1:30 PM. The vegetable soup that is served can’t be beat !!

Baked goods for the Food for Thought table will be accepted on Sunday October 31st from 9 till 12, and then on Monday, Nov. 1st, from 8 am.

Come help work the sale, buy books, enjoy a great lunch, celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the sale or all the above. Hope to see you there !!!

Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ,

So many things are happening this week and next at Trinity, and, surprise, most of them have something to do with BOOKS … stacking books, pricing books, selling books, eating in the midst of books, cleaning up after books. I am sure a Dr. Seuss-style book could be written about this entitled, "Books, Books, Books."

This year, as you know, is the 50th Annual Trinity Book Sale (some even say 51st). I find it hard to believe that the book sale is as old as the parish I previously served. I also find it marvelous. There is something of a resurrection story to be found in the pages of so many volumes over so many years.

Book are essentially no good without being read. Over the course of the months and years books come continuously to Trinity dumped or crated in boxes. Often they are dusty, and sometimes they are musty. Some are old and others are young, many are wounded by life. Some have the voice of children, and other have the wisdom of years. But they all seem forgotten and lifeless — one could even call them dead.

When they arrive here they are treated with care, not unlike the care shown when Mary Magdalene went to the garden. But what is really important is that the books emerge from the shadowy darkness and find new life — they are read, looked at, reflected upon, discussed, and even cherished.

We are good to books here at Trinity Church; we accept all kinds and all conditions and when books come or are brought to this place, they find new life.

Dear God, may we be as good to people as we are to books. When forgotten people come ... When old people ... or people damaged by life come ... When young people or dusty people come … may we care tenderly for them and get them into the hands of people who will love them. Amen.

Blessings & peace,

Scott Hunter+

St. Paul United Methodist Church, 11th and Market Streets, is having its Second Annual Celebration of Care giving Concert on Sunday, November 14, beginning at 3:00 p.m.  The program will feature instrumental and choral music by members of FaithLink's participating churches and will last about an hour.  There will be a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall.  Admission is free; a free-will offering will be taken to benefit the FaithLink ministry.

Successful Workday! Many thanks to all who helped make the Work Day a great success, especially to George DeHoff who trimmed the back hedges, to Hamp Fitcher who bravely climbed the TALL ladder and repaired the light fixture in the nave, to Judson Currey who replaced the door handle on the door in Trinity Hall, to Jim Full, Connie Waterman, Craig Curry, Sandi Lawson, Judson Currey, and Eric Lawson who cleaned the carpet and furniture, and moved and made the game room ready for YOUTH GATHERINGS. We still would like to paint and decorate the game room as well as find a VCR for the TV that is already there. The kids got into the cleaning and moving too! THANKS TO YOU ALL! (The hedges on the 5th St. side of Trinity house still need to be trimmed, if anyone feels inclined.) We're planning another work day in November, what's next??? Jennifer L Currey...Jr.. Warden

Brown Bag and Harvest Sundays:

Sunday, October 31st is Brown Bag Sunday at Trinity. Brown shopping bags with lists of supplies needed will be handed out at Sunday services. The bags will then be "harvested" on Nov. 14th, which is of course Harvest Sunday !! Please limit items to those listed. We have an abundance of certain items, ie. vegetables. Thank-you for helping to fill our pantry to feed the needy. Last week’s edition of the Times incorrectly stated that Brown Bag Sunday would be on Nov. 7th. Oct. 31st is the correct date. Sorry for any inconvenience!

Supper Club: "Supper Clubbers" had a great time at the home of Betty Rodda, October 8th….it was a warm, intimate evening. And we are hoping YOU will be there when we meet again, Friday November 12th at 6:30 p.m., at Betsy Smith’s home.

Supper Club is for everyone! If you’ve never been before, plan to go this time. It’s a pot luck supper with fun socializing for Trinitarians and their friends. No agenda ! You’all come !

Connie’s Corner

Attention Youth in grades 6-9, there is an upcoming retreat that you shouldn't miss. The theme is "Defining Your Faith: Who is God to You?" The dates are Nov. 6 and 7 at St. Matthew's, Wheeling. I have Registration forms for those that are interested.
Other upcoming Diocesan youth events include a Sr. High Retreat Dec. 3-9, and HAPPENING 2000, March 3-5. Youth Convention, as always, coincides with Diocesan Convention, May 5-7. I think it is really important for us to participate in these events, especially since we don't have an active youth group at this time (we need adult sponsors to get that rolling if anyone would like to volunteer--hint, hint). I hope we have some participation so we can have a report on how things went. Just contact me for a registration form and you will be on your way to Wheeling.

Peace,

Connie

Opportunity for Holy Baptism: Sunday November 7th is All Saints’ Sunday and will also be the next opportunity for anyone to receive Holy Baptism. If anyone is interested please contact Father Hunter at the church office (422-3362) as soon as possible.

For young people and those who love them

A promise is a promise
Ask before you touch something that isn’t yours
If you make someone cry, say that you’re sorry.
You’re never too big to ask for help.
Being nice can get you somewhere.
People who do mean things to you are not your friends.
Cats are Not water-resistant.
Don’t ride your bike on ice.
Never tell stuff to other friends that another friend said.
Never, ever say "I hate you"
Take turns using stuff.
Don’t use the front brake on your bike first.
If you slow down and take your time, your work is better.
Don’t smart off to the teacher.
You will get there just as fast if you don’t push and shove, and no one will be mad at you.
Wear comfortable shoes on field days.
Don’t bother Chad.
