Faith @
Fifth and Juliana
Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ,
It was a delight to hear Dan Ruley this past
weekend. I suspect many of you were touched by his time of sharing —
his coming to Trinity to sing in the choir as a teenager, is work as a
summer park director, and his recollections about the Rev’d Dr.
Waterman. I was captured by Dan’s image of the “the dust of this
place” becoming a part of him. As an added bonus, I also got a
civics lesson. We were honored to have Dan share with us — thank
you, sir — and we look forward to having James Wright join us for
this coming Sunday.
This week you will be receiving the anticipated
expense side of the 2000 budget for you to review and to pray over as
you consider your response to God’s abundance in your life. As you
and I both consider our 2000 financial stewardship response I am
reminded of several comments which have stuck with me over the years
…
One person in a former parish stood up to speak
about his, and his family’s approach to financial stewardship. A
very active member of the parish he stood before us on Sunday morning
and said, “I grew up in the Baptist Church. Here is the stewardship
campaign I grew up with — tithe or go to hell. I’m not in the
Baptist Church anymore, but I tithe.” Another person looked at me in
the late Fall of the year and said, “I don’t get all this fuss and
bother each year. A new stewardship approach, this title, that slogan.
Seems to me everyone would be begging for pledge cards so they could
show their appreciation for God’s love and Jesus’ salvation. By
the way, where’s my pledge card.”
This year’s budget represents, to some, a
stretch. There is no gravy in it. There is no padding. There is only
reflected in it what the Vestry prayerfully believe the Holy Spirit is
calling us to do. I trust the Spirit will guide all of our responses.
Blessings & peace,
Scott Hunter+

'Tis the Season . . .
Each year Parkersburg's Episcopal churches work together to offer
special help to 80 or more families in need at Christmas time. The
Christmas Store, where these families can select gifts and warm clothing,
will open at Good Shepherd Church on December 15.
Each year Trinity Church prepares a Personal Care Packet for each
family at the Christmas Store. The packets contain items that cannot be
purchased with Food Stamps. Supplies for the packets will be collected in
baskets decorated with red ribbons in the Nave and in Trinity Hall.
Will you begin this week to bring these full-sized personal care
items to Trinity?
(The last day to bring these items is December 8th !!!)
Soap Deodorant
Shampoo Combs and brushes
Toothpaste and toothbrushes
P.S. For the Christmas project we use full-sized containers, but
hotel-sized products are needed by Old Man Rivers Mission. If you bring
these, we will deliver them to the Mission.

Connies
Corner
WOW! Imagine my surprise when I got a call from Jennifer Currey
telling me that we had received an anonymous gift- a brand new VCR-
for our young people! Thank you tremendously to that generous Angel
:) It is always amazing to me how generous the members of Trinity
Church are. You always seem to be showing how much your fellow
Trinitarians mean to you. Is there any doubt that we, as a parish
family, are moving and growing? It may have taken us awhile to get
back to this point, but the love and commitment that is demonstrated
here is bound to attract new families. Please continue taking care
of each other, and continue praying for our family to grow.
Peace,
Connie |
