A Special Message from the Standing Committee

New link!

One of the largest Christian events to happen in the Mid-Ohio Valley will be this coming April 6th-9th. The Mid-Ohio Valley will host a crusade by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, with associate evangelist Dr. Ralph Bell. Dr. Bell, who has been with the Graham organization for 30 years, is the backup for Billy Graham at his crusades as well as doing crusades himself for the Graham organization.

A local committee is actively planning for this event, and are very excited to be having the Graham organization coming to our area as they only accept twenty requests a year to do crusades where they know there is a strong inter-denominational support for the Crusade. The Evangelism Committee from Trinity is taking an active part in preparations for this crusade and hosted a planning meeting for the Crusade this past Wednesday at Trinity.

A complete schedule of events will be published in the Times as it becomes available. As of now we know the Crusade will have many musical events as well as different services specifically designed for Seniors, families and for young people.

We hope everyone will set aside some time to participate in some or all of the events this Crusade will offer. Look for further information in upcoming Times.

TUNE IN TODAY!

Faith @ Fifth and Juliana

Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ,

“So Father Hunter,” someone asked, “what are you up to in the New Year?” It’s a good question and I thought I might share with you a few things about what is up in the New Year with respect to Trinity.

To quote a friend of mine who is soon to be consecrated bishop when he was asked about his priorities for the diocese, “There are about twelve first priorities.” Okay, so he is going to a diocese, and I am in a single parish. Maybe there are not twelve, but not just one either, and each must fit within our mission and vision.

Of equal importance are four things:

bulletImprove how we meet, greet and incorporate the stranger and newcomer into the worship and life of the parish.
bulletIdentify the un-churched, and marginally churched people of this area and develop avenues to invite them into this community of faith.
bulletWork together with wardens and other leaders of the parish to shape the organization of our ministries so they function well, empower and employ the vast creative gifts of Trinitarians in ministry, and communicate effectively with one another and the parish.
bulletCreate opportunities for fellowship and hands-on ministry within the youth community of this parish, and grow the same.

Additionally, here is a list of some of the opportunities to serve in the coming year. The list reflects the ministries in which we are currently involved and to which we are committed.

bulletParish participation in the Parkersburg Ecumenical Crusade 2000 led by the Rev’d Dr. Ralph Bell
bulletDevelopment of Ministry with our soon-to-be Curate, the Rev’d Michael Hadaway
bulletParish participation in the Wood County Episcopal Church Habitat House Project
bulletParish participation in the Peterkin Capital Funds Campaign
bulletPlanning and executing a Youth Work Trip to Parkersburg this summer by North Holland Church (to include our own and area youth).
bulletA youth mission trip to southern West Virginia
bulletBuilding the Artist-In-Residence & St. Cecilia ministries
bulletDeveloping a multi-faceted Wednesday evening ministry with multi-generational focus
bulletContinuing to build the team and plan for the hosting of Convention 2001 and electing the next Bishop of our diocese.

These are by no means exhaustive. I believe, though, that you will find something that excites and empowers you. It will be a good year, I know. How do I know. Because I know God is calling you to share in these wonderful opportunities, and I have faith that your response will be “here I am, send me.”

Faithfully yours,

Scott+

Congratulations to the Church’s newest member:

Martin Luther King Events:

As part of its purpose to perpetuate the dreams and works of Dr. King, the Mid Ohio Valley King Holiday Committee has created the Wood County MLK Scholarship Fund through which they hope to grant a scholarship to a high school senior each year. To raise additional money for this fund they are having a Scholarship Dinner on Saturday, January 15th at Stout United Methodist Church, 34th and Broad Streets, from 5-7:30 p.m. The cost of the dinner is $10 for adults, of which over half will be designated for the scholarship fund, and $5 for children. If you have any questions, would like to make a reservation, or would like to make a donation to the scholarship fund, please call Carol Brooks, 295-4972, or Angie Wainright 863-6170.

Supper Club moved to 28th:

The date for this month’s Supper Club has been changed from the 14th to Friday the 28th of January. Supper Club will be held at the home of LaVerne Marshall and will begin at 6:30 p.m. as usual. Mark your calendars now and plan to attend a fun evening with fellow Trinitarians !!

If anyone knows of anything specific around the church and grounds that needs fixed or needs some attention, please contact Jennifer or Jackie to let them know. There are many items on their list, but they would like to make sure they haven’t missed anything. They will be having professionals coming in to take a look around and giving estimates for repair work sometime in the very near future.

Cookbooks and Brooms Available!!

Food For Thought Cookbooks are still available. These books were put together several years ago and contain recipes contributed by Trinitarians. Cookbooks are $8.00 each. Also St. Anne’s Guild has brooms for sale. Although they don’t work by themselves, they come highly recommended. Each broom is $7.00. Please contact Betty Rodda if interested in either one.

Godly Play:

This upcoming Sunday we will be talking about the baptism of Jesus. Although it is actually after the fact, I think it will be beneficial because most of the children were able to attend the baptism in church on Jan. 9th. We will be incorporating the changes we discussed in our meeting last Sunday. Also, I will now include in my article each week the topic of our story in Godly Play for the upcoming week. This will keep everyone informed, and allow the aunts and uncles to brush up on the subject so they will be prepared to answer questions. I hope to see everyone there on Sunday.

Peace,

   Connie
