Faith @ Fifth
and Juliana
Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ,
Your vestry is beginning a new and I believe exciting year. This means,
of course, that the parish is beginning a new and exciting year. What follows are just some to the things
which will be happening, or for which we will be preparing for, in 2000:
Crusade 2000 (1st week of April)
Priest Intern (July 2000)
Better Welcoming & Incorporation
Youth Ministry & Education Expansion and Development
Peterkin Campaign
Every Member Canvass 2000
Habitat House & Outreach Development
Hosting Diocesan Convention 2001
A Complete Physical Assessment of our buildings & systems
Improved building Accessibility
Development of a Pastoral Visitors Ministry
We have a very talented and faithful vestry, but they will not be able to
accomplish these things alone. They are going to need your assistance. Please contact any vestry member or me
to let us know where you want to offer your gifts and energy. Remember, if you don’t call us, we will call
you!
Shifting gears a moment, I want to add my own encouragement to the notice
which appears at the top of the next page. The deanery meeting this coming Sunday and a second one in February
are very important. They will shape much of what we say we are looking for in our next bishop. It is your
opportunity to hear and be heard. I strongly, energetically, and prayerfully urge you to attend this coming
Sunday and to plan to attend in February as well. If you want a ride, call the church office and let us know.
If you want directions, we will have them, too.
See you on Sunday. Twice!
Faithfully,
Scott+ |
Deanery
Meeting:
This coming Sunday, January 23rd, there will be a Deanery Meeting at Grace Episcopal Church in St. Mary’s. This
meeting is open to everyone in the diocese and is part of the search process for the new Bishop of West Virginia.
Your input is encouraged and expected, so if you would like an opportunity to be heard in regards to what you feel
we should be looking for in our next Bishop, this is your opportunity. If you would like further information, please
contact Father Hunter at the church office.

Attention Choir!!
All Choir members will need to be at ALL rehearsals possible in order to learn the “Magnificat” by
Dr. Richard Wetzel, Trinity’s Composer in residence, and the other music chosen for the Jazz Vespers which is
scheduled for St. Cecilia’s next event on Sunday, February 13th at 5:00 P.M.

Installation of Officers and Vestry: Sunday Jan. 23rd Father Hunter
will install the new officers for St. Anne’s Guild, the ECW and the new Vestry members. Installation will take
place at the 10:30 a.m. service.

Lost and Found: Someone left a pair of gold-rimmed reading
glasses at Lynette Neilson’s home following last month’s St. Anne’s meeting. If they are yours, please look in
the lost and found basket on the safe outside of the Sacristy.

Souper Bowl of Caring:
The Souper Bowl of Caring is a grassroots movement that encourages churches and synagogues to invite parishioners
to give $1 each as they leave worship on Super Bowl Sunday (Jan. 30). Proceeds are then sent to a local food bank or
soup kitchen of the church’s choosing. Our youth will be collecting donations again this year, donations are
collected in large soup pots. Please remember to donate to help fight hunger in our own community !

Supper Club moved to 28th:
The date for this month’s Supper Club has been changed from the 14th to Friday the 28th of January. Supper Club
will be held at the home of LaVerne Marshall and will begin at 6:30 p.m. as usual. Beverages are provided but if you
have a favorite, feel free to bring it with you. Also please call LaVerne by Wednesday, Jan. 19th and let her know
that you will be attending and what type of dish you will bring. Plan to attend a fun evening with fellow
Trinitarians !!

Cookbooks and Brooms
Available!!
Food For Thought Cookbooks are still available. These books were put together several years ago and contain
recipes contributed by Trinitarians. Cookbooks are $8.00 each. Also St. Anne’s Guild has brooms for sale. Although
they don’t work by themselves, they come highly recommended. Each broom is $7.00. Please contact Betty Rodda if
interested in either one.

Fyne Junque Sale Coming this Spring !!!!
Coming this May the ECW will be holding a Fyne Junque Sale (other wise known as “fine junk”). The sale
will take place one day only and be held in Trinity Hall. The ECW has had to cut donations to several of their
outreach programs due to a decrease in proceeds from this year’s Book Sale, and they are hoping to be able to
raise enough money so that outreach contributions can be raised back up to the same levels as last year. Please
begin to think about all the Fyne Junque you may no longer need and consider donating it for the sale. We will keep
you informed as to time and date and when we can begin to accept donations as plans for the sale are finalized.

Recycle
Your Christmas Cards :
Don’t you hate throwing away those beautiful Christmas cards after the holidays? Well—–this year you
don’t have to. Just bring them in and drop them off in the wrapped box in Trinity Hall. Our children will cut the
fronts off of them and mail them to St. Jude’s Ranch in Colorado. St. Jude’s Ranch is a shelter for abused and
neglected children. The children there recycle the cards into new cards and sell them as a way to earn spending
money. This is a great way to recycle and also to help troubled youth.
Also, the First United Methodist Church on Juliana Street is collecting used ink cartridges for laser printers
for recycling for Emerson School. Please put the used cartridges in a sealed plastic bag and drop them off in
Trinity Hall and we will see that they are delivered to First United Methodist.

Welcome Back William: We
were happy to see William Christian, as well as his Mom and Dad, in church on Sunday. William is continuing to
recover from a bout with pneumonia and a 10 day hospital stay. We’re glad you’re home and feeling better,
William !!

Connie’s Corner
The children listened intently as Forbes Hiehle told the story of the baptism of Jesus. He told them how
John the Baptizer wore a coat of camel's hair, and ate locusts and honey. They worked well in the break out
classrooms where the older kids challenged each other in Bible trivia, and the younger ones talked about the
ten commandments. They all colored their own story book of the day's story. Some helped to paint the story
figures that were cut out of wood for us by Eric Lawson and Chester Waterman. I think it went really well.
Next week we continue with the story of Jesus in the wilderness. Godly Play begins at 9:15 on the second floor
of the Christian Ed building. It is open to ages 3 and up.
See you there.
Peace,
Connie

If our greatest need had been information, God would have sent us an educator.
If our greatest need had been technology, God would have sent us a scientist.
If our greatest need had been money, God would
have sent us an
economist.
But since our greatest need was forgiveness, God Sent us a Savior.
