Michael Hadaway's Ordination:
Let’s support Michael Hadaway, who will be ordained in Huntington on June 10. A 47 seat bus has been reserved for that day in order for us to go together to attend his ordination and reception. The cost, per person, would be approx. $15 if there are 40 reservations, less if there are more, but more if less than 40 reservations. We do need a count by Feb 1 to hold the bus. Call the church office as soon as possible or sign-up in Trinity Hall this week.

Lasagna Supper
The Annual Lasagna Dinner is fast approaching. The Dinner is to be Wednesday, February 9th beginning at 6:00 p.m. There is a sign-up sheet on the Bulletin Board in Trinity Hall. Please sign-up to bring lasagna, salad or dessert. Also, help is needed to set-up for the dinner at 10:00 a.m. that morning and for clean-up following the dinner. Make plans to attend a great evening and to sample lots of different lasagna recipes !!

ECW Winter Luncheon Meeting and Lenten Quiet Morning
This past Friday, Jan. 21st was the ECW Winter Luncheon and despite inclement weather the ECW enjoyed a great turn-out at the Parkersburg Country Club. Our guest speaker was Sister Barbara Jean of the Sisters of Holy Nativity and she brought along Sister Christina and the Rev’d Mother Sister Maria as special guests. The Sisters are now in residence at Sandscrest in Wheeling. Sister Barbara Jean will be joining us again for the Lenten Quiet Morning. This year’s Quiet Morning has been scheduled for Saturday, March 25th.

   Faith @ Fifth and Juliana

Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ,

This past Sunday several people from Trinity joined with delegates and other interested people from the Ohio Valley Deanery as a part of the search for the next bishop of West Virginia. Trinity participants included delegates Hamp Fitcher, Eric Lawson, and Carol Adams. Also present were Michael Carter, Fr. Hunter, Betty Rodda (who serves on the Search Committee) and Doug Adams (who serves on the Standing Committee).

The meeting was shepherded by the deanery representatives to the Search Committee (Betty Rodda, Jerry Shaw and Fr. Jack Neilson). Following a Bible Study on the calling of the first deacons in Acts 6, the meeting was framed around the following five questions:

  1. What are the unique characteristics of the Diocese of WV?
  2. Strengths of the Diocese?
  3. Weaknesses of the Diocese?
  4. What are some of the characteristics we are looking for in a new Bishop?
  5. Where do we see the Diocese in 5 years and in 10 years.

As our responses were in writing, I cannot tell you if there was any consistency or if there were recurrent themes. I can tell you that the questions were worthy of our thoughtful consideration and response. Further, I believe that they are worthy of the consideration and prayers of the whole diocese. Why do I think that if the responses have already been collected?

I believe that thinking and praying about these things can have an effect on our discernment as a diocese. It can have an impact on discerning persons we may be called to raise up as candidates for the next Bishop. It will have an impact in how we invest ourselves in making the diocese into that which the Holy Spirit is calling us to be. You see, becoming what the Holy Spirit is calling us to be will not happen just because we elect a new bishop no matter how skilled she or he is. It will happen because each of us, in concert, offers fully ourselves our souls and bodies.

Please pray the questions above on a regular basis. Please pray the Holy Spirit so inhabit our sanctuary that only the Spirit’s will could possibly be done when we gather there in May 2001. And pray that each of us would willingly be the Spirit’s instrument.

Blessings,

Scott+

Vestry Highlights:

The Vestry Met Jan 17th. New members met before the Vestry meeting to receive orientation to the Vestry. The meeting began with Bible Study led by Father Hunter.

A thank-you card was received from the Red Cross thanking Trinity for their participation in the Episcopal Blood Drive. Of the 10 participants, 5 were from Trinity.

Carol Olson and Jennifer Currey were recognized and thanked for their hard work and contributions as Senior Warden and Junior Warden respectively. Jennifer Currey was elected as the new Senior Warden and Jim Full was elected as the new Junior Warden.

Committee reports and the Financial Report were presented. Hamp Fitcher reported that four openings will be available for the Columbarium Committee. A committee was formed to find nominees for the position of Keyman which is currently vacant.

Eric Lawson , chairman of the Evangelism Committee, gave a presentation about the upcoming Crusade 2000 and asked that we all plan to be involved in any way possible and to begin to pray daily for the success of the Crusade.

Minutes of the meeting and copies of reports will be made available on the Trinity Hall Bulletin Board.

Attention Choir!! All Choir members will need to be at ALL rehearsals possible in order to learn the “Magnificat” by Dr. Richard Wetzel, Trinity’s Composer in residence, and the other music chosen for the Jazz Vespers which is scheduled for St. Cecilia’s next event on Sunday, February 13th at 5:00 P.M.

Supper Club Supper Club will be held this Friday, Jan. 28th at the home of LaVerne Marshall and will begin at 6:30 p.m. as usual. Beverages are provided but if you have a favorite, feel free to bring it with you. Please call LaVerne at 485-6291 as soon as possible to let her know you are coming and what type of dish you will be bringing.

Crusade 2000: The Billy Graham Organization will be sponsoring a Crusade in Parkersburg on April 6th—8th. There is much to do to prepare for the upcoming Crusade, but the main thing we have all been asked to do starting immediately is to pray for the Crusade. The Graham Organization has given a list of six specific items concerning the Crusade that we should pray for: 1. For friends and relatives who need Jesus Christ; 2. For spiritual renewal in our community; 3. For the evangelist-Ralph Bell-and the other team members involved in the crusade; 4. For the Crusade Executive Committee as they make decisions; 5. For the financial needs of the crusade; 6. For God’s direction concerning your own involvement in this outreach opportunity !

Also if you are interested in being a part of a prayer group for the Crusade, or starting one of your own, please contact Eric Lawson at 485-5050.

Be a Good Samaritan

There is a sign up sheet in Trinity Hall for those interested in helping with our ongoing ministry to the doctors and nurses who serve the Good Samaritan Clinic. This is an opportunity to provide a very simple meal for those volunteers who come to the clinic directly from their work in offices and hospitals. Dates needed for volunteers are February 10th, March 7th, April 13th, May 11 June 8th and July 13th. If you can help out please sign-up on the Trinity Hall Bulletin Board.

Connie’s Corner

This week's story is the parable of the Mustard Seed (Matthew 13:31-32). Craig Curry will be the storyteller. This is one of my favorite stories, and sure to be for the kids as well.

This past Sunday Father Hunter told of Jesus in the wilderness. Godly play was well attended considering the weather! The report given to me was that the story inspired many pictures of camels, and subjects wearing sunglasses!

The new arrangement seems to be working well so far. We ALWAYS have room for more volunteers. And as always, the rooms are open for observation if anyone is inclined to find out what's going on.

See you on Sunday,

   Connie

For young people and those who love them

I am me.
There will not ever be anyone like me.
I am special because I am unique.
I am stardust and dreams.
I am light.
I am love and hope.
I am hugs and sometimes tears.
I am the words “I love you.”
I am swirls of blue, green, red, yellow, purple, orange, and colors no one can name.
I am the sky, the sea, the earth.
I trust, yet I fear.
I hide, yet I don’t hold anything back.
I am free.
I am a child becoming an adult.
I am me, and me is just right.

Beth Schaffer, age 15 as printed in Chicken Soup for the Kids Soul
