Also, there are several elective offices and appointed offices available in the Diocese. The Elective positions available are: Standing Committee (4 year term), 1 Clergy and 1 lay person to be elected; Constitution and Canons Committee (3 year term), 1 Clergy and 1 lay person to be elected; Ecclesiastical Court (1 year term), 3 Clergy and 2 lay persons to be elected; Sandscrest Foundation (3 year term), 3 persons to be elected; Trustee of the Diocese (3 year term), 1 person to be elected, nomination to be by Standing Committee from suggestions.    Faith @ Fifth and Juliana

Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ,

Leadership in the life of the parish is crucial. The Holy Spirit is always present and willing to lead and guide. But the Holy Spirit does that through the hearts, minds and hands of people who are willing to offer themselves to and for the Spirit’s use. In answer to the Spirit’s calling, Jennifer Currey and Jim Full have given themselves to the leadership and work of Senior and Junior Warden, respectively. I pray that you are as excited about this as I am. They are gifted and talented people and their energy and enthusiasm are contagious — so be prepared to catch it.

Additionally, the members of the vestry have recently met in retreat and are working very intentionally to grow the leadership core larger and larger in the parish. We have been focusing on Romans 12 and 1 Corinthians 12 as part of the source of our biblical and theological understanding“ for this. I encourage you to spend some time reading and praying these scriptures. By so doing, you will help us, and you become more and more aware of your own giftedness and importance in this community of faith.

Changing directions ….

I have just received the news that the Rev’d Andy Gerns’ mother, Frances, departed this life in faith and love on February 18th. I ask that you hold Fr. Gerns (former rector of Trinity Church) and the family in your prayers during this tender and holy time. Memorials can be made to St. James Episcopal Church, 1018 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, CT, 06107.

Blessings & peace,

Scott+

We are asking the person who volunteers each month to provide BOTH sandwiches and the sweets. Only one person is needed each month. Dates needed for volunteers are March 7th, April 13th, May 11, June 8th and July 13th.

Sharing Good News:

Hello all:
I just wanted to share some good, personal news with all of you.
My gift from God for work in this life is an ability to write...which I do for a living, mostly about dogs and their people. Although I was unable to attend due to health problems, Sunday night at a banquet in New York City, held in conjunction with the Westminster Kennel Club show, I was recognized for some of my work. I won awards for:
Best Feature Article (about dogs) on the Internet, and;
Best Column (about dogs) on the Internet.
Thanks to God for this recognition, for my work and for the dogs who so lovingly share our lives.

Connie’s Corner

Nathaniel Miller did a fine job telling the story of the Merchant in search of the “Pearl of Great Price” — something so fine that the man would give everything, everything to have it. It was finally concluded that God’s love was the one thing worth everything. The young people then made Valentines which were taken by parishioners to those who could not be with us on Sunday due to illness or other challenges.

Next week's story is based on Matt. 13:3-8, Mark 4: 3-8, and Luke8:5-8.

It is the story of "The Sower"- another parable to be told to the children concerning how putting one’s roots into good soil, there is much room to grow.

Peace,

   Connie
