“What language shall I borrow
to thank thee dearest friend,
for this thy dying sorrow,
thy pity without end?
Oh, make me thine forever!
and I should fainting be,
Lord, let me never, never,
out-live my love for thee.”
Hymn 168 st. 4
Robert Seymour Bridges 1844-1930
The words of the fourth stanza of “O Sacred Head, Sore Wounded”
always seem to capture for me the personal journey of Lent. It begs me ask, “Is Jesus my dearest friend?”
I know that he wants to be, but friendship is a two-way thing. What am I putting into the relationship? Am I
talking regularly to the One who first offers friendship and, only second, hopes to receive it in return?
In the poetic words of the author, the joy of being Jesus’ forever is
cause for fainting — because the joy is so enormous as to overwhelm or overload our senses. Do I know that
joy? Do I seek that joy? That love once realized is so powerful, so profound; such the sculptor of life, that
one would hardly want to live without it.
Lent is a time to renew and restore the relationship with a friend. Not
just a warm and cuddly friend, but a friend who loves you enough to be honest with you. A friend who will
always tell you the truth, in love, but the truth nonetheless. Such a friend is not easily found. Such a
friend is easy to drift away from — because there are plenty of times when we want to hear what we want to
hear, and what we want to hear is not the truth. What we need to hear is the truth!
The renewal and restoration of any friendship comes how? It come through
conversation. One talks a while. The other listens deeply. Then the roles switch. I invite you into
conversation with Jesus — the one who wants to be your dear friend. (Another word for this is prayer.) When
you and I dare to do this, we will find that we will be overwhelmed …by the love of God for us in Christ.
Faithfully yours,
Scott+

This past Sunday the St. Cecilia Society presented its program for March featuring
Patricia Pease, Mezzo Soprano and Alejandro Cremaschi, Piano. The performance was wonderful, and a substantial
portion of those attending were young people! The next (and last two of the Series) offerings of the St. Cecilia
Society will be: Sunday, April 9th at 7:00 p.m. at Trinity and will feature Raymond Tymas-Jones, Tenor. And, the
last Event of the series will be, Sunday, May 7th at 7:00 p.m. and will feature John Schlabach, Trumpet, and Arlene
Wetzel, organ. Mark your calendars now and make plans to attend one or both of these final musical offerings of the
St. Cecilia Society.

Times Deadline Changed:
In an effort to get the Times to you in a more timely fashion, the deadline
for articles and information has been changed. All items for the Times need to be to the editor by 5 PM on
Fridays !! Information can be left in my mailbox at the church or information can be emailed to me at bcurry@trinitytimes.com.
Many thanks for your cooperation, Betsy Curry.

Fyne Junque Sale:
Please keep in mind that the ECW will be holding a Fyne Junque Sale on Saturday, May 13th. We will soon be
accepting items that you or someone you know would like to donate for the sale. Also we will be needing volunteers
to help mark items and to help during the sale. More details will be coming soon to the Times and on the
Bulletin Board in Trinity Hall !!

EASTER FLOWER donations
in memory of or in thanksgiving for a family member, friend or other are being taken. Please send your donation to
the parish office marked “Easter Flowers” or call Linda Brantner for more information at 863-5833.

Celebration 2000 Prayer Group:
One of the most important ways to contribute to the Crusade is Prayer. The Trinity Church Cabinet will host a 45
minute prayer group on Wednesday after the Lenten dinner and presentation (approximate start time 7:45) in the Adams
Chapel. The group will pray for the Operation Andrew selections as well as for the success of the Crusade in
bringing the unchurched to Christ.
ALL ARE INVITED!

Celebration 2000 Love-in-Action Brochures available at church
An important ministry of the Celebration 2000 (Crusade) is the
Love-in-Action Project. The Love-in-Action Project handed out brochures this past Sunday with the bulletin. The
Brochures included Wish Lists for several local projects: Sanctuary House, Boys and Girls Club Teen Center,
Faithlink Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers, and Old Man Rivers Mission. Please consider how you can put your love in
action during AND after the Crusade. If you did not receive a brochure they are available in the church office.

Help wanted:
Many hands to build Episcopal House
The three Episcopal churches, Trinity and Good Shepherd in Parkersburg with Christ Church in Williamstown, are
committed to building a home with a partner family in Habitat for Humanity. A steering committee with
representatives from all three churches has been meeting monthly to plan this work. You will be seeing new signs in
each church to mark progress in fundraising for the home. You may already have a small house-shaped bank to use
during Lent for this purpose.
We are good at raising money and we will need to raise more for this project. We are also great at making and
taking meals to others. We will need to do that when the building starts too. But the work that will change your
heart and your life will come from taking a tool in your hands and working beside the partner families as they learn
and grow during the building phase.
"But I don't have carpenter skills. I always call a plumber when we have a leak. I would be afraid I would
do something wrong." We all said that when we first volunteered at a building site. The joy of learning how to
do the basic tasks of building is only surpassed by the joy that comes from watching the partner families grow in
confidence and strength.
So plan now to be very involved in building this home, not only in raising funds and baking cakes, but working at
the building site in any way that you can. A skills survey will soon be distributed. Remember to make note of skills
that you don't own but would be willing to develop.

The Whisper
A child's love is like a whisper, given in little ways we do not hear. But if you listen closely it will be
very clear. They often do not say it loud, but in how they come to you… Daddy, will you play with me? Mommy,
tie my shoe? The many ways they tell you, changes as they grow. Dad, I made the team today! Mom, I've Got to
go!
Pop, I need some money, You see there's...this girl at school. Mama, I met a boy today
and Wow, he's so cool! Dad, I've got something to tell you...I think she is the one!
Mom, he asked me to marry him. Would you love him as your son? Dad, I've got some news for you...It's going to
be a boy! Mom, I'm kind of scared of this, yet I'm filled with joy! A child's love is like a whisper, given in
little ways we do not hear.
But if you listen closely, it will be very clear. They often do not say it loud, but in how they come to
you...Grandpa, will you play with me? Grandma, tie my shoe?
It is never ending. A blessing from above. Listen to the whispers of a child's love.
