Celebration 2000 Website

This past week many in the Mid-Ohio Valley participated in the Celebration 2000 Crusade lead by Dr. Ralph Bell of the Billy Graham Organization. The event was made possible through the efforts of over 100 churches from the Mid-Ohio Valley area. About 1000 local people volunteered time and talents to the Crusade. Also, there were many area businesses who offered goods, services and financial support. Many thanks go out to all from Trinity who participated, especially Eric Lawson, our Congregational Leader for the Crusade, Jack Neilson, the Treasurer for Celebration 2000, as well as to Lynette Neilson, Dianne Johnson, Susie Fitcher, Michael Carter, Henry Jackson, Leslie McKernan, James and Julie Wright, Kerry and Cara Bowen and to Craig Curry who was the leader of the Co-Labor Team. The Co-Labor Team was responsible for processing the commitment cards collected at each nights event. Last but certainly not least, many thanks go out to Good Shepherd’s John and Carol Doughty for making this event possible. They gave selflessly for months of their time and energy to make Celebration 2000 a reality.

The total attendance for the Crusade was almost 18,000 people. There were 761 people who came forward to make a commitment to Christ. The majority of these people were under 25 years of age. We ask that you continue to pray for the participants of this Crusade and especially those who are new in their faith.

Easter Message from the Presiding Bishop

"Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down Death by death, and upon
those in the tomb bestowing life." (Orthodox Easter Liturgy)

Easter is not simply a recurring feast day in the Christian Calendar: it is the shattering of the known in order to make way for what is real. And the reality it proclaims is that everything that restricts, diminishes, imprisons and limits life as God intends it in all its free-flowing abundance is trampled down by the risen Christ. Christ's victory is
therefore a challenge to everything within us and within the church and our world that resists Christ's all-embracing freedom. "For freedom Christ has set us free" (Galatians 5:1), cries Paul: a freedom that is not without the costly relinquishment of the myriad unfreedoms which constitute our lives and ways of being in relationship with one another.

In the Orthodox icon of the resurrection, the risen Christ, having battered down the doors of hell - the ultimate symbol of bondage - grasps Adam and Eve by the wrists, and with the full force of the resurrection pulls them -yanks them - out of their constricting and perversely comfortable places of entombment into the new space and reality of risenness. He does so with us as well, both personally and as a church. At times it is almost more than we can bear because we are stretched to the breaking point; it undermines all notions of safety and drastically alters our world and brings us face to face with "the immeasurable riches of [God's] grace in his kindness toward
us in Christ Jesus" (Ephesians 2:7). Only those who are willing to die and rise with Christ can endure the painful joy of the resurrection and discover the truth of Jesus' words, "Those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake and the sake of the Gospel will save it" (Mark 8:35).

It is my prayer that each of us, as we celebrate Easter, the great feast of
our redemption, may both personally and together as a community of faith, be
drawn out of ourselves into the unbounded and ever unfolding mystery of
resurrection. May we come to know its full power to transform, reconcile and
make whole. May we become, as St. Augustine once said, "an alleluia from
head to toe."

Frank T. Griswold, Presiding Bishop and Primate

IT ALL STARTED WITH KEN PRICE.........

In the early 1980's Ken wanted the two basements and the attic of Trinity Building cleared out, and worthwhile items saved. Lynette Neilson and Emma Beatty began the task, so dusty each night they would not come upstairs before 5 PM when the office closed. Reams of old needless things were discarded, but it was immediately apparent how many valuable records were there. Ken asked Emma Beatty if she would become the Trinity Archivist, and she agreed to try. Appeals went out to parishioners to give up what records and keepsakes they had, and the results were wonderful (they still are). When the amount of records grew, Jack Smith made the most incredible gift. He donated four large fireproof filing cabinets. Would you believe they are almost filled? Even next week a valuable paper will be contributed by Eleanor Lowe. This past year, Emma asked Barbara Allman to be her assistant and eventually take over. Barbara is interested, and very competent.

Last week, St. John's Church in Charleston called, said they were even a few years older than Trinity, and needed advice to set up their own Archives. They sent two members to Parkersburg, who excitedly went home, full of ideas, and asking Barbara and Emma to come to Charleston to help and advise.

A nice tribute to Trinity.....Bishop Price - do you hear this?????

Please Remember to Lock the Door !!

Several times in the past 2 weeks the back door to Trinity Hall has been found unlocked. For those who have keys—are you aware the lock turns to the right to unlock, to the left to relock? Many times anyone could come in, unannounced. PLEASE remember to relock that door immediately upon opening. Thank-you !!

Nursery Needs-

As many of you are sure to be shopping for upcoming baby showers for the several expectant families in our parish, why not include a little something for our nursery. They need some new dolls, and most of the toys are so worn they aren't usable. If you need other ideas, just ask some of the parents, or stop by the nursery and chat with Sharon and Barbara. Thanks!

New Family Books in the Memorial Library: Three new books have been added to the Memorial Library. They are: Hope For The Flowers, Hey God,

Listen !, Change My Heart-Family Lenten Handbook. These are great books for families. Check ‘em out !!!

Gentle Reminder: A gentle reminder that pledges for the month of March were down considerably ($5000 to be exact) and that the bills continue to find us. If you are planning to be out of town this Easter and even later on this summer, please consider prepayment of your pledges. The Treasurer will be most appreciative.

ANGEL IN MY POCKET

I am a tiny angel I'm smaller than your thumb: I live in people pockets. That's where I have my fun. I don't suppose you've seen me, I'm too tiny to detect: Though I'm with you all the time, I doubt we've ever met.

Before I was an Angel...I was a fairy in a flower: God, Himself, hand-picked me,
And gave me Angel power. Now God has many Angels That He trains in Angel pools: We become His eyes, and ears, and hands We become His special tools.
And because God is so busy, With way too much to do; He said that my assignment Is to keep close watch on you.

When He tucked me in your Pocket He blessed you with Angel care; Then told me to never leave you, And I vowed always to be there.

For young people and those who love them

For when your kids ask to drive.........

A young boy had just gotten his driving permit. He asked his father, who was a minister, if they could discuss his use of the car. His father said to him, "I'll make a deal with you. You bring your grades up, study your Bible a little, and get your hair cut, then we will talk about it."

A month later the boy came back and again asked his father if they could discuss his use of the car.

His father said, "Son, I'm real proud of you. You have brought your grades up, you've studied your Bible diligently, but you didn't get hair cut!"

The young man waited a moment and replied, "You know dad, I've been thinking about that. You know Samson had long hair, Moses had long hair, Noah had long hair, and even Jesus had long hair." His father replied, "Yes son, and they walked everywhere they went!"
