Faith @ Fifth and Juliana
The following is from the Rev’d Michael Hadaway, cub reporter for the
Times. J
The Diocese meets in it's 123rd Convention
Representatives from all over the Diocese met last weekend (May 5-7) at
the Holiday Inn in Martinsburg for our annual Convention hosted by Trinity Church, Martinsburg. Trinity was
represented by Eric Lawson, Carol Adams, and Hampden Fitcher as delegates. Fr. Hunter, of course, was your
clergy representative, and Douglass Adams, Susie Fitcher, Betty Rodda, and myself were also attending as part
of the Trinity delegation. If you have any questions ask any of us. The theme this year was "Spiritual
Formation," there were forums and discussions aimed at exploring how we integrate our faith into our
lives — the forums included prayer, play, spiritual reading, and 9-5 connecting Sunday and Monday.
During the business portion of Convention Doug Adams was elected to a
full term on the Standing Committee of the Diocese, which oversees many of the operations of the Diocese while
the search process for the next bishop continues, Doug had been filling an uncompleted term. Voting was done
on a new machine that worked wonderfully and will help to streamline the process as we elect a bishop next
year at Trinity. We also thank Betty Rodda for willingness to serve as a diocesan Trustee. Unfortunately, the
balloting did not go her way (or ours).
Nominations for the next bishop are now open, if you are interested in
the process or wish to nominate someone talk with Fr. Hunter or Betty Rodda (who serves on the Search
Committee).
Friday night featured the kick-off for the Peterkin Capital Campaign, at
which Bishop Ken Price, Trinity’s 11th Rector, was a featured speaker. Bishop Price camped and work at
Peterkin for forty years; he and others spoke of the effects it has had on their lives and the lives of people
around the diocese and the whole nation. This campaign, which has been discussed in The Times is aimed
at gaining the funds for needed repair, updates and construction at Peterkin.
Next year’s convention, which we are hosting along with Good Shepherd,
will include the election of the Seventh Bishop of West Virginia. That election will take place in the nave at
Trinity. Please keep this in your prayers and thoughts.
In Christ,
The Rev. Michael Hadaway

Last week's story was based on Luke 24:28-30, the Road to Emmaus. It is the story of how Jesus'
resurrection was made known to some of His disciples. They had been in His presence for quite awhile, but had
not realized who He was. It is odd how many times situations like this occur in our lives. We sort of go on
with our lives with a kind of tunnel vision until circumstances or people force us to snap out of it. However,
it is hard for us to accept the truth because of our doubts that creep in. Factor in the opinions of others
and it increases our doubt and steers us away from what we may have initially known was true. I think God puts
us in these situations to make us aware that we are not in control of our lives or anyone else's. We think we
are until something miraculous or unexpected happens.
This week we will hear the story of the Good Shepherd and the Lord's Supper
(Psalm 23, John 10, and Matthew 18). We will hear how God is the Good Shepherd who shows us the way. He
is still with us in the bread and wine that we share each Sunday.
Peace,
Connie |

Please hold these people, events and circumstances in your daily prayers. Also, we encourage you to always say a
prayer for those unknown persons who have no one to pray for them. By-the-way, please remember to renew prayer
requests weekly.

God’s Wife ??
A little boy about 10 years old was standing before a shoe store on the roadway, barefooted, peering through the
window, and shivering with cold.
A lady approached the boy and said, "My little fellow, why are you looking so earnestly in that
window?"
"I was asking God to give me a pair of shoes," was the boys reply.
The lady took him by the hand and went into the store and asked the clerk to get half a dozen pairs of socks for
the boy. She then asked if he could give her a basin of water and a towel. He quickly brought them to her. She took
the little fellow to the back part of the store and, removing her gloves, knelt down, washed his little feet, and
dried them with a towel. By this time the clerk had returned with the socks. Placing a pair upon the boy's feet, she
purchased him a pair of shoes. She tied up the remaining pairs of socks and gave them to him.
She patted him on the head and said, "No doubt, my little fellow, you feel more comfortable now?"
As she turned to go, the astonished lad caught her by the hand, and looking up in her face, with tears his eyes,
answered the question with these words: "Are you God's Wife?"
