Reception
for Connie
This past Sunday a reception was held in
honor of our Director of Christian Education,
Connie Waterman. We celebrated “Peterkin-style”
which included wearing camp clothes to church
and singing songs from the Peterkin song book.
The young children sang a beautiful song at the
offertory, and everyone enjoyed the reception
that followed the service.
Many
thanks to Julie Gyongyosi, Jennifer Currey and
Leslie McKernan who helped coordinate the
reception.
Connie has served as Trinity’s DRE for the
last two years. She will continue to be a part
of the Trinity community, and pursuing her
professional music and other interests (and
hopefully providing some violin music from time
to time). We extend our deep appreciation and
gratitude to Connie and a job well done.
Our graduating Seniors, Dianne Johnson,
Charlotte Dauphin, Lanae Dailey, John Northrup
and Joe Nicholson were also honored and
recognized at the 10:30 service and the
reception that followed. Our congratulations,
best wishes and prayers go with them as they
begin their college careers. |

Faith @ Fifth and Juliana
The following was a devotional
meditation given by Doris Brown at last week’s St. Anne’s meeting.
Doris shared with us that she wrote it about 3:00 am the day of the
meeting (just a few days before she turned 89 years young). To a
person it was a breathtaking part of the gathering, and we twisted
Doris’ arm to let us reprint it here. I pray you enjoy it as much as
we did.
Blessings, Scott+
I am going to call
this “Who Do Men Say We Are?”
Paul the apostle was a Christian.
He became a Christian by conversion. He made tents for a living. Which
of these two things is he remembered for? Most of us have forgotten
that he was a tent maker, but we all know of his travels and his
spreading of the Gospel of Christ and love of God to the many peoples
of his time.
Here and now, in the year 2000,
the world is searching for peace and hope.
When we pass on how will people
remember us? Will they remember a man as the most successful person
financially that they ever knew, or will they remember him as the man
who reached out to them in their moment of darkness and need to lead
them to God?
Will they remember a woman for
her beauty or her outstanding ability, or will they remember her as
the woman who saw their inner hunger and panic and helped them along
the way and prayed for them?
Or the young graduate? Will their
friends remember them as the “life of the party” or as the one who
showed them that life WAS worth living?
Whatever success we achieve in
our secular vocations really has little effect on others, but our
effectiveness as Christians among the people we meet day by day can
have a far reaching impact. Only God knows what power will be set in
motion.
One never knows when you reach
out to someone how God is going to work through that life. We should
never let a livelihood overshadow our real calling – that of
bringing Jesus Christ into a stumbling and turbulent world.
I recall someone else’s words
…
“Only one life – it will soon
be past.
Only what is done for Christ will last.”
Let us pray. O Lord, make our
faith so much a part of our living that people will remember us first
for our love for Thee and our faithfulness to Thee. Amen. |
Vestry Highlights:
The last meeting of the
Vestry was Monday May 15th. The meeting began with Bible study lead by
Father Hunter. Highlights of the meeting are as follows:
 | Updated financial reports were distributed that reflected several
pledge increases, which was in response to the recent request from the
Vestry due to our increased budget demands for this year. UTO
contributions were reported at $365.00. |
 | Building and Grounds Committee presented an evaluation of the
structural conditions of the church buildings compiled by contractor
Jack Stephens. A proposal will hopefully go to Diocesan Council re:
applications for funds needed for immediate repairs. |
 | Christian Ed. Committee reported they will be coordinating a reception
for outgoing DRE Connie Waterman following the services on Sunday, May
21st as well as for our graduating seniors. The search process for a new
DRE is underway. |
 | Eric Lawson reported that a survey will be sent out re: the ECM to see
what type of activities the men of the church are interested in and a
calendar of men’s events is in the works. |
 | Father Hunter reported that Bill Eason, James Wright, Becky Johnson,
and Hamp and Susie Fitcher will be serving on the local committee for
the Peterkin Campaign. |
There will be no Vestry meeting in June. The next meeting is scheduled
for Monday, July 17th. The meeting was closed with prayer.

Bishop of Spokane
From Diocesan House: We are pleased to
announce that the Rev. Dr. James E.
Waggoner, Jr. was elected the Bishop of Spokane today at the Electing
Convention held in Spokane, Washington. Jim was elected on the second ballot
and with the appropriate consents will be consecrated in October, 2000. The
Diocesan Staff is excited for Jim and Gloria as they begin this new phase of
their ministry and ask for your prayers for them and their adult sons, Jimmy
and Peter.
We will miss Jim's leadership on the Diocesan Staff and throughout the
Diocese. The Standing Committee will meet on Tuesday, May 23 at Diocesan
House and more information on the plans for this new phase of our transition
will be announced soon.

Recognition
of Choir and Godly Play Participants: On
Sunday, June 4th we will be recognizing Arlene Wetzel and all the choir
members for their faithful service during this past year. We will also
recognize everyone who has helped participate in the Godly Play program.
Following the service, the Episcopal Church Men will be serving their
now famous “gourmet” hot dogs and ice cream in Trinity Hall. Eric Lawson
is in need of help from the men to coordinate this event, so please give him
a call at 485-5050 if you can help.

Shepherds
and Bread Ministry to Meet:
On Sunday, June 4th following the 10:30
a.m. service, there will be a SHORT meeting of the Shepherds committee and
the “Bread Ministry” providers. The meeting will be in the conference
room.

Michael
Hadaway Ordination:
There is still room on the bus that has been chartered to go to
Huntington on Saturday, June 10th for the Ordination of Michael Hadaway. The
bus will be leaving from behind Trinity (in bank lots), and will depart
between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. and return to Parkersburg around 4 p.m. If you
are interested, please stop by Trinity Hall and add your name to the sign-up
sheet on the Bulletin Board. The cost is approximately $15.00 but may be
more or less depending on the number of people who sign up to go.

Please hold these people, events and circumstances in your daily prayers.
Also, we encourage you to always say a prayer for those unknown persons who
have no one to pray for them. By-the-way, please remember to renew prayer
requests weekly.

Gentle Reminder:
A
gentle reminder that the bills continue to find us. If you are
planning to be out of town this spring and even later on this
summer, please consider prepayment of your pledges. The
Treasurer will be most appreciative. |
Thanks Pat:
Last week Pat Fritch’s name was left out of the thank-you
for the people who helped with the Postal Workers Food Drive.
Pat worked all day stacking, sorting and storing food items that
Trinity’s food closet received from the Postal Workers Food
Drive. We apologize for the omission. |

Graduation Prayer
Father,
I have knowledge, so will You show me now,
How to use it wisely and find a way somehow
To make the world I live in a little better place,
And make life with its problems a little bit easier to face.
Grant me faith and courage and put purpose in my days,
And
show me how to serve Thee in effective ways.
So my education, my knowledge and my skill
May find their true fulfillment as I learn to do Thy will.
And may I ever be aware in everything I do,
That knowledge comes from learning, and wisdom comes from You.
Amen.
Everyone at Trinity extends their prayers and congratulations to all our
graduating seniors. May God go with you as you enter this new stage in your
lives !
