Faith @
Fifth and Juliana
Someone said it best
with the phrase…….. “Silence is golden”. Sometimes it is a
welcomed truth in our lives and when it comes it can refresh us with
new possibilities of change….…possibilities of personal renewal…..…possibilities
of looking for direction as to which way to go. At this moment in late
afternoon, it is silent in Trinity. The day is over. The bustle of
people has subsided. All the issues about our convention and other
issues can be put aside for another day.
It is time to
reflect on the awesome decision of listening to God’s plan for our
diocese. I felt, a few weeks ago, when the search process for the next
bishop was finished, I would find a sense of peace. We all had done
what we had been called to do yet peace for me is still elusive. God
had not, and still has not, spoken clearly to me. The question is, of
course, “Who among four candidates is God’s choice for the next
Bishop of West Virginia?”
I just finished
reading the Gospel lesson that we will hear this Sunday. It points to
the way out of my dilemma. I know that life on the other side of
Easter is not easy and there is a temptation to go back the way we
were. So it was with the disciples. They went back to work…to fish.
They became what they were before Easter. And so Peter says “I’m
going fishing”. The others go along too.
Suddenly, they hear
the words “Children, have you any fish?. Words from the mouth of a
stranger. Their response was “No”. To that they are told “Cast
your nets on the other side”.
For me, suddenly a
light was turned on. Suppose I was looking on the wrong side of my
boat for answers. Perhaps my net was cast in the wrong place. And that
leads to the heart of my thoughts.
How are you doing?
How are you getting on with your life? Have you achieved whatever it
is you seek? Have you found true satisfaction? The words “Children,
have you any fish?” is not a rhetorical question. For both of us,
like the disciples, the answer must be “No”.
For most of us,
living consists of unanswered issues in our lives. Issues that never
seem to go away. Jesus gives us an invitation to try something else.
When He says to try the other side, he is offering us the
possibilities of a new freedom……a freedom with answers to our
questions……a release from dead ends……and an abundant life that
can be full.
What happened to
those fisherman in the gospel. They were transformed, and you and I
are a result of that transformation. They were not made over
instantly, abracadabra, but they grew in awareness of self. Life on
the other side of Easter is not just liturgical; it is Easter
existential. If you want to learn what I mean…….just cast your
net. There is life yet to be for all of us. You only need to try the
other side to experience what I mean. Respond to the invitation from
Christ and receive it fully and joyously.

FROM THE SEARCH COMMITTEE..........
The Parish Opinion Survey should
be in your hands by now. (If we have inadvertently missed anyone,
please call the office and let us know.) We ask you to please take a
few minutes and respond to it. This is a very important step in
knowing who we are and what we are looking for in our search for a new
rector. As the letter stated, you may put your completed survey in the
offering plate at any of the services or return it to the office. We
are hard at work for all of you and appreciate your input in this very
important matter. Many thanks for your help.

Club is this Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Arlene and Dick Wetzel

there are still maps, we hope, on the Trinity Hall bulletin board.
Arlene is providing the meat. Just bring an appetizer, vegetable
casserole, salad or dessert and come ahead. Supper Club is a fun way to
get to know other Trinitarians and enjoy. No agenda...just a pleasant
evening. Light beverages will be available. If you have a favorite one,
do bring it ! Questions? Call our choirmaster at 740-554-2121.
P.S. Wasn’t Dr. Wetzel’s music, written especially for Trinity

Construction at Trinity:
Not everyone knows this —but we’ve had a lot of construction in
all the buildings, but mainly in the church — sanding, painting, etc.,
so if there is dust and dirt somewhere please rest assured that it is
being taken care of as time allows. Every pew and nook and cranny will
have its cleaning. Please be patient as we continue our preparations
getting the church “spiffed up” for convention.

From the Education Desk of DRE Julie Button…
The author of the following piece
is unknown, so I can't acknowledge them. However, the message is worth
repeating in this column without authorship. I hope you agree.
"Take time to WORK, it is
the price of success.
Take time to THINK, it is the source of power.
Take time to PLAY, it is the secret of youth.
Take time to READ, it is the foundation of knowledge.
Take time to WORSHIP, it is the highway of reverence and washes the
dust of earth from our eyes.
Take time to HELP and ENJOY FRIENDS, it is the source of happiness.
Take time to LOVE, it is the one sacrament of life.
Take time to DREAM, it hitches the soul to the stars.
Take time to LAUGH, it is the singing that helps with life's loads.
Take time to PLAN, it is the secret of being able to have time to take
time for the first nine things!"
Here's hoping that God grants you
plenty of TIME.
