Faith @
Fifth and Juliana
The
service hours for Sunday, November 11th (only) have been changed. I
would hope by this time you have been telephoned so that you know some
of the reasons…….and that the regular 10:30 am service has been
moved back to 10 am for this one day only!
There
will be no 8 am service either. I
am personally asking you to please make every effort to be at the one
service. There are very serious structural problems in our
church that we must share together in a congregational meeting. We
will do this as soon as we conclude the Holy Eucharist..
There
will be no sermon…...no anthems so that we can begin the meeting
immediately. You will hear from several lay members about the problem
and the necessary solutions that we all need to consider.
A
light lunch will be catered in Trinity Hall…...soup, salad,
sandwiches and a drink. Please inform the person who contacts you as
to how many will attend lunch ….. we need an accurate count for the
caterer!
The
Nursery will be open until lunch is concluded. For those young people
who would like to see a video movie, that will be available for them
in the Conference Room…...with supervision. Lunch will be
brought to them or, if you wish, they may eat with the adults in
Trinity Hall.
I
suspect that by this time you are wondering just what this one day
change is all about! I know that. It is just impossible to share all
of it with you in print. I think the best solution is that you be here
and listen to the full story as it will unfold in the presentation.
Then discuss it among yourselves at lunch.
There
will be ample time for questions during the program, or even at lunch.
You are encouraged to ask them at any point you wish.
A
time-line for the day is shown on the facing page. We will make every
effort to have all our congregation fed and on their way home by 12:30
pm.
Again,
we need your input…...do come!

Book Sale News
This issue of Trinity Times is being
written prior to the beginning of the our annual Book Sale. Without
using any names, I just want to say a few words to all of you who
helped in any way. The work itself is almost beyond belief. Yet
somehow it has been done by so many caring people for more than fifty
years. And it gets bigger and bigger as each year passes by. Kudos to
all!
Beginning in July, the books are
priced until almost 30,000 are marked. It not only takes markers, but
it takes drivers to pick up books from private homes, libraries and
other locations. There are people who prepare the lunch offerings.
People who provide all the beautiful things for sale in the Memorial
Room….Food For Thought and Christmas Presence. People who setup,
take down. People who work during the sale. And our staff who work
hours behind the scene. I do precious little except say thank you to
as many helpers as I can.
Almost everyone knows the monies raised goes to
charity...half within our Church… half to outreach in the community.
Again, I hope all of you who have helped in any way know that your
work is deeply appreciated. All too often the words “thank you…..well
done” are not spoken often enough…….. but not today!

Every Member Canvas
Trinity people are very special! I know that.
Yet, I am constantly overjoyed, but not surprised, when this body of
Christ comes together and makes possible that which seemed impossible.
Our canvas is almost concluded and all but a few pledge cards have been
received. And compared to last year’s canvas, we are showing close to
a 18% increase. Even after we include the special letter of last March,
we should show a slight increase. There are still a few cards not yet
returned. Please help our Finance Committee do their work by getting
them into the Church Office as soon as possible!
Hopefully, this suggests the Vestry might be might be
able to increase our outreach category. That’s our goal! More on this
later when we have a final budget !

The Search Committee has received some names
of potential candidates. Letters of inquiry have been mailed asking
for a response by the 17th, when the search committee will begin its
discernment.
Let us continue to pray for the
committee, the candidates and our church, as we pursue the task of
finding a new priest. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to drop
an email to the committee: search@trinitytimes.com.

From
the Director of Religious Education:
Congratulations to Father Mike and Leigh on their
new appointment in Virginia. God blessed me with the good fortune of
knowing these people, even though briefly, and I pray that He will
bless them in their new endeavor. I’m sure that this will be an
exciting time for them!
I have been giving some thought lately to the
subject of cha ge. A German proverb says “To change and to change
for the better are two different things”. Change does have two
faces, there is a down-side and an up-side. For the Hadaways, this
will be a positive change, a new beginning in their lives. For those
who lose loved ones or whose lives are turned around by events beyond
their control, change is quite the opposite.
Life is a kind of staircase-we go up, we go down.
Each tread is a change to what we are used to. We graduate from
school, get married, have children, find new jobs, buy homes, suffer
illnesses, suffer the loss of parents, all the while gaining or losing
according to the change. Someone once said that if we did not change,
we were doing nothing; but all change, even if it is for the better,
is uncomfortable, because it is different. We learn to exist quite
comfortably in some of the ruts we have made.
There are also times we wrestle with the inevitable
alterations of life. Why does my body rebel now when I try to do the
same things with my grandchildren that I did with my kids? Time erodes
some things, and in pops the inevitable change, like it or not! Time
has undermined this beautiful church and you are going to have to
grapple with a solution. The building you have been so comfortable in
for so long has changed, just as some of our bodies have!
I am confident that Father Mike and Leigh “discussed”
this change in their lives with God. We are wise to go to the One Who
Never Changes when we need advice. I hope that you will all pray about
a solution for your church, as I will continue to pray for you. May
God bless you.
